The inner cable is a component of the so-called Bowden cable. It is usually a steel wire or a wire rope. Despite a protective sheath, the cable is exposed to the weather and ages over time, which means that safe braking can no longer be guaranteed. For safety reasons you should check and replace brake cables regularly.
